Over the past three years, my drawing skills have improved significantly, largely due to my art lessons in both GCSE and A-level. Through the many pieces I’ve created, I have naturally developed my own style—one that is rough and dark, using shadow and shape to define features while strategically incorporating bright colors and contrast where needed. I aim to refine and expand this technique until it becomes a style uniquely my own.

My painting skills have also advanced considerably. Throughout the course, I have learned to work with various mediums, including gouache, acrylic, and specific inks. One way I have done this is by attending weekly lectures hosted by the Mathematics department at Keele University, covering a diverse range of topics from the Mathematics of juggling to quantum mechanics. Some of the most engaging talks for me, however, have been on seemingly simple concepts like inequalities, which encouraged me to think more creatively about problem-solving.

Additionally, I attended a summer school at the University of Manchester, run by the National Academy of Gifted and Talented Youth. Throughout my GCSEs and A-levels, I developed a deep understanding of the film industry. Immersing myself in articles, documentaries, and behind-the-scenes content—such as DVD special features and Film4 interviews—I gained insight into Hollywood, TV companies, and freelancing. It was during this time that I realised directing was my true passion.

I naturally gravitated toward scriptwriting, film analysis, songwriting, and photography, drawing inspiration from iconic directors and their techniques—Scorsese’s use of voiceover narration, Spielberg’s dynamic camera angles, and Seth MacFarlane’s bold, in-your-face comedy.

My first hands-on experience with filmmaking came during my Media AS Level, where I wrote, directed, and edited a short film about mobile phone addiction for an assignment. I also collaborated on my classmates’ projects, further honing my skills. Determined to invest in my craft, I spent most of my savings on film equipment and, when funds were tight, even built my own stabilisers and dolly rigs. My film received high praise from tutors, particularly for its creative camera work, trick photography, and special effects.

Studying A-Level Photography has sharpened my technical skills with cameras, lighting, and editing software while also refining my eye for aesthetics, composition, and visual storytelling—especially after analyzing Stanley Kubrick’s cinematic style. Additionally, A-Level English has strengthened my writing and analytical abilities, enabling me to interpret texts and complete assignments with confidence.

Currently, I am working on two short films: a dark comedy/psychological thriller for my Media A-Level and an independent post-pandemic film. In Chemistry, I have particularly enjoyed the problem-solving aspects of chemical equilibria and entropy, as well as the intricate complexity of organic chemistry. I am especially interested in how the structure of organic molecules influences their chemical reactions and how this knowledge can be applied in the pharmaceutical industry.

Biology has deepened my understanding of the human body, particularly at the molecular and cellular levels through the study of genetics and the immune system. I have developed strong analytical skills, enabling me to interpret graphical and numerical data effectively. I am particularly fascinated by the body's adaptations for fighting disease, including the non-specific and specific immune responses. However, despite these sophisticated defense mechanisms, our bodies sometimes fail to combat pathogens—an area where drug interventions become crucial, making biochemistry especially relevant to my interests.
