University of Essex Guide 2017-18: Facilities
Facilities for students are generally pretty good with most essential services being provided on campus or a short bus ride away into Colchester.
With the campus shop, a bookstore, stationary store bars, restaurants and post offices all within a hundred metres of the accommodation, it’s possible to survive all year without leaving campus – though you’ll soon get sick of the lack of choice.
New facilities and building projects continue to improve student life at the three campuses. The university boasts Albert Sloman Library and Silberrad Student Centre, creating a 24/7 learning hub for students.
The University of Essex Students’ Union (UESU) offers top entertainment venues at Sub Zero which was voted ‘Best Student Venue in the UK’ at the Smirnoff BEDA Awards, and has been host to AC/DC, Blur, Iggy Pop, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, The Smiths and The Specials.
Watch the latest films or enjoy a retro movie marathon at Cine10, or relax in one of the three UESU bars.
If you are interested in the media, you may like to join SX:TV providing TV for students by students, or become involved with RED Radio. If you are into current affairs, why not write for The Rabbit, the UESU student newspaper.
