Law and English Personal Statement Example 2

I enjoy being intellectually stimulated and challenging traditional views which is evident from my choice of A Level subjects - history, English and RE. These subjects have always been my forte, receiving the H.S. Irvine Cup for history and the Michael Elder Cup for English. I am indebted to these subjects as they have taught me paramount analytical skills along with developing my critical thought.

Education has most definitely been a pleasurable experience, with the recent honour of being elected as Head Girl. Through this role I have been committed to doing my utmost for the student body, the staff and the school; fortifying my talent for leadership and organisation.

This challenge has also taught me how to approach problems with a logical and inquiring attitude, understanding the various factors and creating the best solution obtainable. Likewise it has allowed me to organise various charity events, the sixth year formal and other notable calendar events.

While balancing school work, my duties as head girl and extra curriculum activities, I also manage a part-time job. Working as a waitress in a local café, I have been able to employ time management and organizational skills while developing my communications.

I am a committed and conscientious student with almost full attendance- merely missing one day in Primary School. Being a member of the School Forum and School Council for a number of years has let me demonstrate my innovative nature as I endeavour to improve student life. Other responsibilities include Peer Tutoring, Prefect Duty and the “Buddy System” where we help younger pupils with the transition between Primary and Secondary education.

I would describe myself as an ambitious and confident person delighting in a range of extra curriculum activities. I have been part of the Shakespeare School Festival and have participated in the annual school musical as part of the cast, orchestra and lighting crew. I was also honoured to be part of our school’s public speaking team and have been placed first in the speech section at the local Feis. From this I have learnt an array of skills, the most prominent being the use of my voice.

I am also a keen writer and have had poetry published in the “Young Writers” Poetry Book. I have also co-authored a special Shakespearean edition of our school’s newspaper, the Kronik celebrating our performance at the Shakespeare Schools Festival.

This was an excellent opportunity to display my talent for writing as well as my time management skills, as it was written and produced in under two weeks. As proof of its success I received a certificate from the festival director acknowledging our efforts and praising our execution.

As a keen sportswoman, I have represented my school in numerous competitions including Delmont Country for cross country, Mary Peter’s athletics and various hockey competitions. I was also awarded runner up Junior Girl for my outstanding performance on various Sports Days and Vice House Captain for my contributions to sport over the school years.

Outside school a sport I love is dance. Establishing myself in classical ballet, modern jazz and contemporary I have been honoured to perform in London, Southampton and at Hillsborough Castle. Aside from obtaining grades in dance I have been taught personal discipline and commitment, both mentally and physically. Likewise, my music grades have taught me the importance of commitment and patience.

As I have stated I am a natural leader, acting as a leader at my Youth Fellowship, Scripture Union and Sunday School. These opportunities have enhanced my social skills and through this I have gained invaluable experience of working with young people from different situations. I also have being volunteering at a local youth club, “the Boys’ Brigade, the Saturday Night Club, the Sunday “Knight Kids” and the “New Beginnings” charity shop.

Another experience that shaped my character and built upon my leadership skills was my bronze, silver and gold Duke of Edinburgh. I found the expedition very enjoyable as I was able to master leadership and problem solving skills while being under intense pressure.

I see university as a new adventure, a challenge I am anxious to begin. I feel that I can bring a lot to student life, in and out of the classroom.
