Accounting & Finance Personal Statement Example 5 (Postgraduate)
I am writing to apply for a place on the MSc Accounting and Finance course at the Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU).
I graduated from University of Strathclyde in November 2011 and I was granted a BA (Hons) Accounting with a second class upper (2:1) degree.
Upon completing my Honours Degree at University of Strathclyde, I chose to write a research dissertation with regards to the motivation theories specifically to explore the practicality and the effectiveness of the incentive schemes introduced by many organisations in today’s world.
Though I only managed to get an average grade for my research dissertation during my undergraduate study, I feel that applying for MSc in Accounting and Finance at GCU will allow me to redeem myself to produce a better and higher quality research dissertation in this field.
With the well-known reputation of its lecturers, world class facilities and highly convenient location, I believe that Glasgow Caledonian University is no doubt the best place for me to complete the above-mentioned course.
When I first started my BA Accounting course at University of Strathclyde nearly eight years ago, I was having a lot of difficulties in terms of getting myself used to the new environment.
Being far away from my home country and family for the first time in my life and lack of experience in life in general had initially affected my ability to focus on my studies.
However, I believe that who I am today is completely different from who I was when I first set foot in this blessed country.
Mingling with various people who have come from a variety of cultures and backgrounds for the past years as well as being in the professional environment during my employment within the Financial Service Industries in the UK since 2011 has shaped my personality today.
I feel that I am a lot more resilient, confident, highly motivated and ambitious which I believe will become a major factor for me to achieve the desired first class degree for this course.
For the past five years, I worked as a complaint handler in various financial service institutions. Among my duties were investigating customers’ dissatisfactions thoroughly and communicate the outcome professionally. I was also given the responsibility to calculate the redress compensation accurately if the complaint was upheld.
This working experience has taught me to be highly observant and meticulous and it has sharpened my research and analytical skills which I believe will give a positive impact in completing this MSc in Accounting and Finance course at GCU.
Furthermore, being an employee of a few organisations for the past years has allowed me to observe the way an organisation manages its employees.
This has subsequently motivated me to explore further the most effective and efficient way an organisation may employ to manage its human resources, which I intend to explore in my research dissertation for this course.
If I am given the opportunity to complete this course, my future plan is to pursue my interest in research by doing a PhD, most likely in management accounting field.
I am also very keen to explore the teaching profession as being a lecturer has always been my ultimate ambition since I was a teenager.
