Graphic Design and Fashion Marketing Personal Statement Example
The best way to describe me is extra. I always did everything with theatrics and creativity. I thrive in a creative environment where I can brainstorm creative ideas and unique executions. This is the overarching reason I am interested and a perfect fit for graphic design and fashion marketing courses.
I graduated from Temasek Polytechnic (TP) in 2021 where I studied Communication Design, specialising in integrated design. Through my studies, I am honoured to have had many opportunities to showcase my strength through multiple competitions in both group and individual projects.
After my studies, I took a gap year and worked in a company where I could apply my skill in the real world. This helped me find what I was truly interested in before I applied to university.
Through my studies, I learned how to visually communicate a story and create meaningful designs that are both captivating and human-centred. My highest grades are 'A's and 'B'+ across modules such as Design for Prints and Trends and Research.
In my design for print module, many lecturers were impressed by my scanimation brochure and showcased it to my juniors. This shows my ability to not just think outside of the box, but also experiment with using the same technique in a different way.
Trends and research is another skill I was well versed in. I am able to analyse current trends and datas that enable me to forecast and anticipate changes in the industry. This enabled me to create effective designs and marketing campaigns.
During my internship, my company’s engagement and sign-up rate peaked at the highest the company has ever seen in its history through the campaign I helped to come up with and executed on.
Some of my notable awards worth mentioning are, PUB X New Water Campaign. Where my team was shortlisted for the campaign competition. My final graduating project also won the Sustainability Award for the year 2020, presented by The BeyondDesign Center. Lastly, I was also honoured with the Good Progress Award given to students within the top 10% of their school's level and course in terms of improvement in academic performance with a good conduct.
During my gap year, I was working in iCondo, a small medium enterprise that connects condominium managers, residents, local businesses, and communities on a single platform.
I was initially hired for the role of UI UX design but was later reassigned to the content creation and festive campaign team after my supervisor took notice of my strength in user engagement. From there, I spearheaded the increase in user activity and engagement on the app.
Fashion has always been my interest hence, TikTok and Instagram were where I frequently posted fashion-related content. I started gaining followers and this brought on collaboration opportunities with brands such as Lovito, Shopee, and ezbuy to name a few.
Lastly, I come from an English-speaking family where my level of fluency in English is decent and adequate to study in the UK without much difficulty or challenge.
I would love to work in a fashion company and be involved with the entire marketing process. Your course will make me an effective team player in any company I work with, and help achieve my aspiration to be a marketing director. I am confident that alongside my skills in graphic design, qualities in creative marketing, and interest in fashion we will be able to realise my dream and make the school proud. Thank you for your kind consideration. I will see you soon in your 2023 intake.
